Youth Paster Conner Penny Sexual Abuse Lawsuits

April 18, 2022

On April 5, 2022, InspirationChurch youth paster Conner “Jesse” Penny was arrested on allegations of sexual abuse of a child under the age of 17. After the arrest, Mesquite police received allegations from more survivors that spanned a time period from 2013 to 2021. The 32-year-old youth paster had previously worked for the Mesquite Independent School District and the City of Mesquite as an aide and counselor.

The Mesquite Police Department has requested that anyone with more information about Conner “Jesse” Penny contacts them at (972) 285-6335.

While a criminal conviction will ensure that Penny faces jail time for his crimes, survivors of sexual abuse may have grounds to file a civil suit against the organizations and institutions that allowed the abuse to occur and continue for these nine years. If you or a loved one survived sexual abuse from Conner Penny or any other pastor, volunteer or employee of Inspiration Church, please, contact Estey & Bomberger as soon as you are ready. Our attorneys have significant experience fighting for justice on behalf of survivors of sexual abuse and offer a free and confidential case evaluation.

Why File a Civil Lawsuit?

A criminal conviction can take an abuser off of the street, but it does nothing to fix an environment that allowed the abuse to occur in the first place. Sexual predators seek out environments that give them access to vulnerable children and put them in a position of authority over them. In this case, that environment was a church (or potentially a school district or position working for the city). Unfortunately, organizations and institutions often fail to protect children in these situations, instead choosing to protect themselves and hide or ignore the abuse. When this happens, we believe that these institutions should be held accountable. Filing a lawsuit is often the only way to force these organizations to put the safety of children first and change the way they operate. Additionally, a lawsuit can recover vital compensation for survivors who may face a lifelong impact of the abuse.

At Estey & Bomberger, we have a 100 percent success rate in sexual abuse cases and have recovered millions of dollars on behalf of our clients.  We are trauma-informed advocates and do everything in our power to help survivors move forward.
