Gymnastics Coach Patrick Wehrung Arrested

A Santee gymnastics coach, Patrick Wehrung, was arrested for allegedly having sex with a teenage girl he instructed while working as a gymnastics coach at Champion Gymnastics & Cheer. Patrick Wehrung was arrested on the same day that the parents of the 15-year-old reported the alleged crimes. Law enforcement reports indicate that the girl allegedly admitted to the alleged illicit sexual relationship when her suspicious parents confronted her.

wehrungPatrick Wehrung’s profile on the Champion Gymnastics & Cheer website once stated that he coached at the YMCA withChampion Gymnastics & Cheer Head Coach and CEO JJ Ross for a few years before leaving for college.  It also said that upon returning from college, Wehrung decided to return to coaching gymnastics and joined Champion Gymnastics & Cheer.

Champion Gymnastics & Cheer states that its coaches are certified professional members of USA Gymnastics, the national governing body for gymnastics in the United States. USA Gymnastics keeps a list of permanently banned members on its website. The list now includes more than 100 coaches and members.
