Former North Carolina Wrestling Coach Sentenced to 34 Years
GASTON COUNTY, NC – Following weeks of testimony, Gary Scott Goins, 46, a former East Gaston High School wrestling coach, will spend at least 34 years and 10 months in prison, after being convicted of molesting three of his players. The judge set Goins’ maximum sentence at 43 years and four months. Goins’ attorney gave notice of appeal.
According to the Charlotte Observer, a jury of seven women and five men deliberated for more than three hours before finding Goins guilty.. The sex crimes occurred between 1998 and 2004. After the verdict was read, one of the victims addressed the court and said he was sorry for not speaking up sooner about what Goins did.
